Medicare Part B Premium, Deductibles and Co-payments for 2010
Basic Part B premium: $110.50/month (was $96.40) Most beneficiaries will not pay this increase due to a "hold-harmless" provision in the Medicare law prohibiting Part B premiums from rising more than that year's cost of living increase in Social Security benefits.

Part A deductible: $1,100 (was $1,068)

2010 Modernized Medicare Insurance Plans
The federal government suggested in 2003 to modernize the Medigap market, the NAIC reviewed the current plans and determined updates were needed given marketplace changes since 1990. So effective June 1, 2010, consumers coming on Medicare will choose from 10 Medigap plans.
Effective June 1, 2010, consumers on Medicare will choose from these 10 Medigap plans: A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N.
Changes from the 1990 standardized plans include:
Eliminated Plans E, H, I and J
Removed at-home recovery and preventive care benefits from all plans
Increased Part B excess charges coverage from 80% to 100%
Added a hospice benefit to the basic (core) benefits
Created Plans M and N featuring higher cost-sharing at lower premiums
A common question about the transition to the Medigap modernized plans is what happens to current policyholders' plans.
The answer is simple: Current polcyholders may keep their standardized plans, including those being eliminated on June 1 (Plan J for example).
Standardized Plans are Grandfathered - You're not required to convert your current plan to modernized plan. You will not be automatically switched to or forced to convert to modernized plans. You may keep your current coverage and keep it as long as premiums are paid. Coverage is guaranteed renewable for life.
Standardized Plan Benefits Don't Change - Standardized plans may contain benefits that are not in the modernized plans. For example, consumers with Plan G today would gain the hospice benefit but lose the at-home recovery benefit if they buy Plan G after June 1, 2010.
Plan J Guarantee Issue Conversion Privilege - Current Medicare Beneficiaries with a Medicare supplement Plan J may keep their plan or replace it anytime with another Medicare supplement offered in the state (including a modernized plan effective on or after June 1). The new policy will be guaranteed issue.
